Over a cocktail with Hall Cannon, owner of Otahuna Lodge a few weeks back your The Luxury Travel Bible correspondent was concerned at what the Canterbury Earthquake had done to his lodge, New Zealand's largest private historic residence. Indeed she was so concerned she had to drink at least three more cocktails to calm her nerves... So we are thrilled that Hall reports that in the past five weeks some major accomplishments have been made in a project that is set to take several months. There is still more to come however, including rebuilding the property's many chimneys, replacing damaged roof areas with more than 4000 new shingle roof tiles, correcting faults to the homestead's plastered walls and ceilings and extensive seismic strengthening. All of which means guest can start enjoying the luxuries of Otahuna again on Monday 10 January 2011.
New year's Resolution - be the first to book in to the restored Otahuna Lodge.
